Draft Virginia Wild Trout Management Plan

There are more than 3,000 miles of coldwater streams that contain wild trout in Virginia. The western region of the state harbors populations of wild Brook, Brown, and Rainbow Trout. Wild trout are an indicator of healthy watersheds and contribute to our quality of life. Nearly 60,000 anglers pursue wild trout across the Commonwealth. The Virginia Wild Trout Management Plan was developed by a team of DGIF fisheries biologists and a group of key stakeholders representing partnering government agencies and Trout Unlimited. The Virginia Wild Trout Management Plan is intended to inform staff, partners, and citizens about the Department’s management of wild trout resources within the Commonwealth. The Department will be soliciting public comments regarding the Plan, April 1 through May 31, 2019.
