32nd Annual Western Virginia Sport Show

If you enjoy spending time in the great outdoors, this annual event is sure to please the entire family and any serious outdoor enthusiast. Conservation Police Officers and Complementary Work Force Volunteers from the DGIF will be on-hand to answer questions, provide information on hunting and fishing opportunities around the state, and highlight fishing, hunting, boating, shooting sports, and wildlife watching activities. In addition, nationally recognized outdoor celebrities, sporting gear displays, outfitters, and informative seminars will make this a perfect weekend winter getaway.

Turkey Hunting Workshop

DGIF and the National Wild Turkey Federation are excited to offer this turkey hunting workshop designed for new hunters or people new to turkey hunting in Virginia. During this all day workshop at Merrimac WMA, participants will learn from the experts on all aspects of turkey hunting including turkey biology, scouting techniques, weapon and ammo selection, calling, decoys, and more. Participants will also learn how to pattern their shotgun at a nearby range. This is the perfect course to prepare new hunters to take the next step and harvest a wild turkey in Virginia! There will be a refundable $25 fee to register and only 16 spots available.

Hunter Education Course with Live Fire

Take advantage of this great opportunity to learn hunter education and participate in live fire activities, all in one day! Self-study and review exercises are required prior to taking this course through the Today’s Hunter Student Manual. This manual can be picked up for FREE at any regional DGIF office, Dance’s Sporting Goods, or online through a digital download. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Turkey Hunting Workshop

This workshop is designed to help hunters learn to hunt wild turkeys in both the Spring and Fall turkey seasons. Attendees will learn different aspects of turkey hunting including calling, hunting strategy, equipment, firearms and ammo selection, and more. Lunch will be provided and attendees are encouraged to bring their personal firearm and ammunition for patterning at the range in the afternoon. Free Fishing Days

June 7, 8, and 9, 2019 have been designated as Free Fishing Days in Virginia. No fishing license of any kind will be required for rod and reel fishing in freshwater or saltwater, on these days. See our Where to Fish section to get started!

Virginia Hunter Skills Weekend

SAVE THE DATE! Virginia’s premier event designed to help new and developing hunters is back for 2019! During this weekend-long event, attendees will learn a variety of hunting skills while also participating in hands-on live fire and hunting activities. Cost is $120 and includes lodging, meals and all instruction.
