The 2019 Old Dominion One Shot Turkey Hunt

The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) and the Wildlife Foundation of Virginia (WFV) are happy to announce the winner of the 2019 One Shot Turkey Hunt. Samantha McInteer (15) of King William County, VA harvested her first-ever turkey. Samantha was guided by recently retired DGIF Executive Director and founding member of the Old Dominion One Shot Turkey Hunt, Bob Duncan, on Retreat Farm in Hanover County. She is also an active member of the King William 4-H Shooting Sports Club. Congratulations to Samantha and all the hunters, guides, landowners, and sponsors that make One Shot achievable.

In addition to supporting the Virginia Wildlife Grant Program to connect youth like Samantha McInteer to the outdoors, the One Shot event generates revenue to support access to land in Virginia by the WFV. Recent purchases by the Foundation include Clay Hill, a 1,600-acre tract in Amelia County and Guinea Marsh, an 800-acre piece of property in Gloucester.  This partnership between DGIF and WFV supports the hunting heritage in the Commonwealth through One Shot and other programming to support similar missions. The event raised nearly $70,000 to continue the support of our hunting heritage.

The 2019 the One Shot Turkey Hunt provided 42 new experiences including those by wounded worriers, 1st responders and others. These efforts created new friendships and memories for a lifetime.
