Harpers Ferry, WV

An adult male falcon hacked at New River Gorge National River and fitted with a satellite transmitter in 2007 was tracked in 2009 to Harpers Ferry in Maryland. In 2010 the bird was documented to have paired with an unbanded female. The pair nested at a quarry on the West Virginia side of Harpers Ferry, just over the Virginia state line in Jefferson County, and produced two chicks. Unfortunately no peregrines were found when researchers from CCB and USFWS next went to band the chicks, and the adults were not subsequently seen again. Monitoring at the site will continue into the future.
