Robious Landing Park

Description

The park lies within the floodplain of the James River and offers 3.4 miles of hiking trails and a ramp for launching canoes and kayaks on the James River. Sycamore, green ash, boxelder (a type of maple), and river birch trees dominate the canopy along the river bank. Understory trees include paw-paw and spicebush. Along the riverbanks, visitors can expect to view osprey, bald eagles, red-shouldered hawk, great blue herons, white-eyed vireos, and kingfishers.

In the forest, look for nesting woodland songbirds such as flycatchers, warblers, and vireos. Red-headed woodpeckers and barred owls can be seen and heard in the swamp along the western border. The park’s more open habitats allow for good viewing of open grassland birds like the eastern bluebird and American robin. Fish along this section of the James River include smallmouth bass, bluegill, redbreast sunfish, channel catfish, and gar.
