Osborne Park and Boat Landing

Important Notices For This Site

Notice
Changes to Deep Bottom and Osborne Pike Boat Access SchedulesHenrico County Parks and Recreation will be closing the ramp at Deep Bottom Park at sunset beginning on September 27, 2021. To ensure continued access for night-time angling on the James River the Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) will be opening the Osborne Landing Boat ramp to night-time launching effective immediately.

Description

Osborne Park and Boat Landing offers the best of both worlds: three double boat slips and kayak/canoe launches for wildlife viewing on the James River and paved accessible trails through wooded areas, wetlands, and open fields for those who prefer to stay on land. Even though there is less than a mile of trails, the park’s varied habitats attract abundant wildlife. Familiar species like Carolina chickadee, tufted titmouse, northern cardinal, downy woodpecker, and Carolina wren are joined in spring and fall by migrating warblers, tanagers, and vireos.

Bald eagles, ospreys, hawks, and vultures are frequent sights overhead. Long-legged waders can be seen stalking the fish along the river’s edge. In winter, a careful scan of the river should reveal ducks, Canada geese, and several gull species. The surrounding area is still fairly undeveloped so deer and small mammals might be found as well. Butterflies, dragonflies, and damselflies are common throughout the park.
