Site PCT05A: Tobacco Heritage Trail: La Crosse to Lawrenceville

The Tobacco Heritage Trail from La Crosse to Brodnax is approximately 3.3 miles and provides a smooth easy walk along the old Norfolk and Western railroad bed. The trail traverse a variety of habitat types that provide an excellent opportunity to see warblers, vireos, nuthatches, and a host of other resident and migrants as they move through in the spring and fall. One of the more exciting features is the riparian and wetland habitats that are associated with Little Genito Creek. Keep an eye out for Great Blue and Green Herons, as well as Osprey, Bald Eagle, mallards, wood ducks, common yellow throat, and Prothonotary warblers. Roanoke River Rails-to-Trails continues to work on the Tobacco Heritage Trail and plans to open the next section from Brodnax to Lawrenceville soon. Stay connected to the Tobacco Heritage website: for updates and events on the trail.
