Site MMR01: New River Campground Area

Description

Elevation: 2079 ft. New River Campground/Picnic Area near Ivanhoe is located adjacent to the New River and offers access to the New River Trail State Park system. This site offers campsites, restrooms, drinking water, hiking, mountain-biking, horseback riding, and river access for fishing and canoeing. Nestled between Buck and Byllesby dams, this waterway draws the attention of a variety of wildlife. The surrounding riparian woodlands are filled with songbird serenades in the summertime. Yellow-throated, hooded, and black-and-white warblers, and indigo bunting, can be heard and seen during a leisurely walk along the trail. Birders should listen for the "chip" of common yellowthroat in the cattails that line the river's edges.
