Site MFS03: U.S. Army Corps of Engineer - Philpott Lake-Goose Point
Description
Elevation: 1084 ft. The Goose Point area has undergone significant renovations to improve camping facilities and R.V. access. It also provides lake access with a boat dock, fishing dock, and swim beach area. The access road weaves its way through towering white pines, large yellow poplars, maples, and several species of oak. This area holds birds similar to the forests further back from the lake; however, the added habitat found along the lake edge increases diversity. Belted kingfishers can be heard rattling along the shoreline and often perch prominently along the forest edge overlooking the water. Killdeer are found along the muddy lake margins, and mallard occur in most inlets. These birds are joined by a variety of other waterfowl during migration and winter.
Directions
From the Mize Point parking area, continue north on Rt. 822. Goose Point is 4.7 miles from SR 57.
