Site CGF06: Fort C.F. Smith Park and Historic Site
Description
Two-thirds of this park is comprised of meadows and hardwood forests. During the warmer months, the meadows around the parking lot are cloaked by wildflowers, which support a variety of butterflies. These same meadows attract a variety of butterflies. These same medaows attract a variety of seed-eating birds, such as vesper, field, song and savannah sparrows. American goldfinch and indigo bunting which in turn attract a variety of hawks.
Directions
Exit Theodore Roosevelt Island Parking lot and turn right onto the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Travel 0.6 miles and exit left at Spout Run Parkway. Continue on Spout Run Pkwy for 0.8 miles and turn right on Lorcom Lane. Proceed 0.1 miles on Lorcom Lane and turn right onto Edgewood Street. After traveling 0.1 miles, turn right onto 24th Street. Continue 0.4 miles to the park entrance and parking area on the left.
