Site CGF05: Potomac Heritage Trail
More than 150 species of birds have been recorded here. The trail winds along the quiet water of the Potomac River for 10 miles, corssing Turkey Run and Dead Run, two of the area's pristine streams, as well as severeal islands and a variety of historic sites. The trail, with pedestrian access only, can be accessed from eight sites that are indicated on the Potomac Heritage Trail brochure available from the National Park Service. Although the Potomac Heritage Trail is not part of the official Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, it contributes to the concept of the 425-mile corridor between the Chesapeake Bay and the Allegheny Highlands.
The Potomac Heritage Trail begins at the north end of the Theodore Roosevelt Island parking lot.
