Biennial Regulation Review and Amendment Process and Schedule
A biennial regulation review and amendment process for all Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries regulations governing freshwater fishing, nongame wildlife (i.e. wildlife species that are not hunted, trapped, or fished), and boating is in progress and culminates July 8, 2014. The process and schedule is as follows:

January 27, 2014 Board Wildlife Boating and Law (WB&L) Committee Meeting
Staff presents fishing, nongame wildlife, and boating regulatory issues that have been identified.
January 28, 2014 "Regulatory Issues" Board Meeting*
Staff presents the identified regulatory issues to the Board for its consideration and modification as desired.
30-day public comment period on the identified regulatory issues. Issues other than those already identified are also solicited from the public.
March 25, 2014 Board WB&L Committee Meeting
Staff presents proposal-stage recommendations for regulatory amendments to the Committee.
April 8, 2014 "Proposal Stage" Board Meeting*
Staff presents proposal-stage recommendations for regulatory amendments to the Board. The Board solicits and hears public comments, after which it proposes amendments to freshwater fishing, nongame wildlife and boating regulations.
May 7 to June 20, 2014 Proposed Regulation Public Comment Period*
45-day public comment period on the Board-proposed regulation amendments. No supplemental public meetings are planned; however, public meetings may be scheduled at appropriate locations depending on subject matter and level of interest.
June 24, 2014 WB&L Committee Meeting
Staff presents final recommendations to the Committee.
July 8, 2014 "Final Action" Board Meeting*
Staff presents final recommendations for regulatory amendments to the Board. The Board solicits and hears public comments, after which it adopts final amendments to freshwater fishing, nongame wildlife and boating regulations.
January 1, 2015 - Effective Date for Amended Regulations
Final regulation amendments adopted July 8, 2014 become effective unless otherwise specified.
During the February 11 - March 12, 2014 and May 7 - June 20, 2014 public comment periods, comments are solicited and should be submitted online at DGIF's website; they may also be postal-mailed to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, Attn: Policy Analyst and Regulatory Coordinator, 4010 West Broad Street, P.O. Box 11104 Richmond, Virginia 23230-1104; or emailed to email@example.com. Comments must be in writing and accompanied by the name, address and telephone number of the party offering them. At the April 8 and July 8, 2014 meetings of the Board, 9:00 AM at 4000 West Broad Street, Richmond Virginia, comments also may be made in person.
