2008-2009 Hunting and Trapping
Periodic Regulation Review and Amendment Process
In 2008 and 2009 the Virginia Board of Game and Inland Fisheries is conducting its Hunting and Trapping Periodic Regulation Review and Amendment Process, in which it addresses and considers possible amendments to all state regulations governing game wildlife, hunting, and trapping administered by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF).
Key elements of the process are:
- Three Board meetings.
- October 23, 2008: Hunting and Trapping Regulatory Issues
- February 27, 2009: (Staff Proposal-Stage Recommendations and) Board Proposals
- June 2, 2009: (Staff Final-Stage Recommendations and) Board Final Action
- Two public comment or discussion periods.
- November 4, 2008 - January 5, 2009: Regulatory Issues Public Discussion Period
- March 11 - May 11, 2009: Proposed Regulations Public Comment Period
- Two public meeting series.
- Early to mid September 2008: Hunting and Trapping Regulatory Issues Meetings
- Late March to early April 2009: Hunting and Trapping Proposed Regulation Public Input Meetings
- Later effective date.
- August 1, 2009 effective date for hunting and trapping regulations adopted June 2, 2009.

Public Participation
DGIF solicits and strongly encourages the public's participation in the regulation review process. The ways to participate and submit comments are:
- Online through the agency website.
- Email sent to RegComments@dgif.virginia.gov.
- Mailed letters sent to: Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries, Attn: Policy Analyst and Regulatory Coordinator, 4016 West Broad Street, Richmond VA 23230.
- Public input meetings held in various locations throughout Virginia (March 23 - April 1, 2009).
