Board of Game and Inland Fisheries Meeting

The Board of Game and Inland Fisheries will meet, and intends to consider for final adoption amendments to regulations governing hunting, trapping, game wildlife, wildlife diversity, fishing, fisheries resources, and boating that were proposed on July 17, 2007. The proposed regulation amendments were published in the August 20, 2007 Virginia Register of Regulations (Volume 23, Issue 25), posted on the internet at www.dgif.virginia.gov, and summaries were advertised in newspapers. A public comment period on the proposed regulation amendments opened July 24 and closes September 24, 2007. The Board also intends to consider for final adoption an amendment to 4 VAC 15-270-90. Game: Firearms. Model ordinances related to hunting with firearms for counties and cities, that was proposed on August 21, 2007. The proposed regulation amendment was published in the September 17, 2007 Virginia Register of Regulations (Volume 24, Issue 1), posted on the internet at www.dgif.virginia.gov, and a summary was advertised in newspapers. A public comment period on the proposed regulation amendment opened August 28 and closes September 27, 2007. Comments submitted on all regulatory proposals must be in writing; must be accompanied by the name, address and telephone number of the party offering the comments; should state the regulatory action desired; and should state the justification for the desired action. Comments should be entered into the online comment system at www.dgif.virginia.gov, or they may be mailed to Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, Policy Analyst and Regulatory Coordinator, 4016 West Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia 23230, or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. At the October 16, 2007 meeting, the Board will solicit comments from the public, at which time any interested citizen present shall be heard; it will receive staff's recommendations regarding final adoption of amendments; and it then will determine whether the amendments proposed on July 17 and August 21 will be adopted as final regulations. The Board reserves the right to adopt final amendments that may be more liberal than, or more stringent than, the regulations currently in effect or the regulation amendments proposed at the July 17 and August 21, 2007 meetings, as necessary for the proper management of wildlife resources and boating. The Board is exempted from the Administrative Process Act (§ 2.2-4002 of the Code of Virginia) in promulgating wildlife management regulations, including the length of seasons, bag limits and methods of take set on the wildlife resources within the Commonwealth of Virginia; it promulgates boating regulations under the authority of § 29.1-701 (E) of the Code of Virginia; and publishes all proposed and final regulations as required by § 2.2-4031. The Board will also receive public comments on non-agenda items, may discuss general and administrative issues, and may hold a closed session at some time during the meeting.
