Position Title: Aquatics Technician (Natural Resource Specialist I) Position No. 88112
Location: Richmond, VA Expected Hiring Range: $12.00/hour (no more than 1,500 hrs per work year)

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

This wage position will report directly to the District Fisheries Biologist. Position is responsible for assisting with aquatic resource surveys, fish stocking, fish tagging, habitat improvement, aquatic weed control, equipment/facilities/grounds maintenance, data entry, administrative duties and agency outreach programs. Position may be required to work independently, as part of a group, and /or occasionally lead/supervise agency work activities of interns, partners or volunteers. Position is responsible for assisting in age-and-growth laboratory work including otolith preparation, otolith ageing, and other laboratory duties at the Ashland, VA facility. Job duties involve working during the week, all weekends and all State holidays with the potential for some evening work.

Qualification Guide

Working knowledge of aquatic resource sampling techniques, fish culture, stocking and transportation of fish is desirable. Some experience with boat/vehicle maintenance, and/or trade skills is preferred. Requires the ability to interact effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the public. Must be reliable; be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions; and available to work during the week, and occasionally on weekends and holidays.

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Some related education and/or experience is desirable. A valid Virginia driver's license is required. Experience with personal computers and MS Office software required. Ability to read and interpret maps is essential.
