Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Assists Aquatic Biologist in surveys, monitoring, and assessments of nongame and endangered fish statewide. Other duties include data entry and compilation, report writing, routine equipment and facility maintenance, and educational/outreach activities. Position will assist with Department-wide aquatic resource sampling as needed and/or other Bureau of Wildlife Resources projects as assigned. Must be willing to travel overnight and work on evenings and weekends.
Qualification Guide
Basic knowledge of fish identification, habitat assessment, and use of various sampling gear including electrofishing, snorkeling, seining etc. Must have the ability to perform strenuous lifting of equipment (40-50 pounds) and be able to endure extreme conditions in and around water. Computer experience (MS Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and similar software) is required. Experience with Geographic Information System and MS Access preferred. Also requires the ability to interact effectively with co-workers, supervisors, supply vendors, and the public.
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Post high school education and/or training in biology or wildlife and fisheries sciences preferred. A valid Virginia driver's license is required.
Work will be 40 hours per week during the Spring and Summer. Hours during the Fall and Winter will be limited.
