Position Title: Fish Culturist - Wildlife Worker I* (Natural Resources Specialist I) Position No. 00354
Location: King and Queen Fish Hatchery, King and Queen County, VA Salary Range: $20,684 - $25,856

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Position is assigned to the hatchery under the direct supervision of a Hatchery Superintendent. The primary function of the position is to perform fish cultural duties and maintenance assignments at the hatchery including routine fish care and rearing maintenance; buildings and grounds care; and perform some semi-skilled trades' functions. Also serves as a crew leader, supervising groups of wage employees and volunteers. Transports and distributes fish as required by facility's workload, spawns brood stock, and ensures proper care of newly feeding fry. Participates in public outreach program as applicable.

Qualification Guide

Working knowledge of fish culture, stocking, and transportation of fish is desirable. Knowledge of building construction and maintenance techniques is desirable. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, and with the public through individual and small group situations; supervise the work of subordinate part-time employees; operate power tools, mowers, and tractors; and perform manual labor in and out of doors, in and around water and in varying climatic conditions. Must be able to work periodically without direct or on-site supervision. Basic PC skills desired.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Some related experience is desired. Must possess, or be eligible for a valid Virginia driver's license within 6 months of being hired.

*This is a Career Track position. Broader and more responsible experience in wildlife management, trades/utilities, or leadership indicating possession of more comprehensive technical, interpersonal and organizational competencies is required for progression through the series.
