Carroll L. Dickenson, Non-Hound Hunter

I am a beef cattle farmer in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. My daughter is the ninth generation to live on the family farm. I grew up in Broadway, Virginia, and attended public school, earning degrees from Bridgewater College, James Madison University, and completing additional graduate work at the University of Virginia. I worked as a teacher, principal, and central office administrator for Rockingham County Public Schools for thirty-four years, retiring to farm and work as an adjunct instructor of education for Bridgewater College and Eastern Mennonite University. I own a deer camp on the Shenandoah Mountain west of Broadway and participate in habitat improvement with adjoining landowners to help improve deer populations. I am a charter member of the Shenandoah Valley Sportsman's Alliance, a group dedicated to supporting the efforts of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the U.S. Forest Service to study the current sharp decline of deer populations in the western mountains of Virginia. I enjoy turkey hunting and fishing with my grandson. My interest in the issues related to hunting with hounds in Virginia is centered n the rights of private property owners to control their lands and use their property as they deem appropriate.
