Shenandoah River - South Fork - Facilities
There are 20 public access points along the South Fork Shenandoah River. The VDGIF owns or is a cooperating partner for sixteen of these access sites. Two sites are owned by the United States Forest Service (USFS), Shenandoah State Park offers access to the river, and MERCK & Co., Inc has a site near Elkton, Virginia. Some of these access sites have concrete boat ramps, but most only offer access for canoes or hand launched boats.
Outfitters & Guides
Several canoe outfitters operate on the South Fork Shenandoah. They offer canoe/raft/tube rental packages for float trips of various lengths. Also several fishing guide services operate on the South Fork.
State Parks & Camping
Shenandoah River State Park is located along the South Fork at Bentonville, VA. The park boasts six miles of river frontage and 1,604 acres of land. With so much public shoreline access the park is a great place for wading anglers to fish the South Fork. Shenandoah State Park offers tent camping, picnicking facilities and public restrooms.
Primitive camping is permitted on USFS property along the river. In addition, several private campgrounds are located along the South Fork Shenandoah.
Please respect the rights of private property owners along the river! The majority of the riparian area on both banks of the South Fork Shenandoah is privately owned.
