Catchable Trout Stocking Plan
Very few changes have occurred within the catchable trout program for this year, although the closing of Coursey Springs Rearing Station this spring will result in significant adjustments in distribution of trout and temporary reductions in the number and frequency of stockings in 2009. There have been adjustments to the stocking time periods for the various category of stocked trout waters. Those changes can be found in the Trout Stocking Plan (PDF).
Locust Shade Park (Prince William County) has been added to the Urban Trout Program. This lake had been in the program prior to the suspension of the program for budget reasons in 2002.
Finally, a reminder about Trout Heritage Day. This program was added several years ago for those anglers who enjoyed and missed the old opening day. Selected waters are stocked for the first Saturday in April to create an announced stocking event. There has been one change to the list of Heritage Day waters for 2008. Rose River (Madison County) has been dropped from the list and replaced by Robinson River (Madison County). These streams and lakes are closed to fishing on Friday, April 4th for stocking and will re-open to fishing at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5th. See Fee Fishing Areas for closing and openings.
