New Regulations for Herring in Southern Tidewater
New regulations went into effect January 1, 2008 for anadromous blueback herring and alewives (both are commonly called "river herring") on the North Carolina drainages in Virginia according to VDGIF Tidewater Region Fisheries Biologist, Eric Brittle. The new regulations are in effect on the North Landing, Northwest, Nottoway, Blackwater (Chowan Drainage), and Meherrin Rivers and Back and their tributaries.
