"Eagle Cam" Chicks Banded at Norfolk Botanical Garden
On May 5th, 2010, biologists with the Center for Conservation Biology removed three eagle chicks from the Eagle Cam nest at the Norfolk Botanical Garden and fitted two of them with identification bands. The third chick received a satellite tracking unit which will allow for GPS tracking once it leaves the nest. A world-wide web audience has enjoyed watching the chicks and their parents as their every movement has been captured on the popular live Eagle Cam, which allows for 24 hour web viewing of their movements. The Eagle Cam is a cooperative effort by WVEC-TV, the Norfolk Botanical Garden, and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. This video, narrated by biologist Stephen Living, details the events of the day when the birds were removed, studied, fitted with equipment and then successfully returned to the nest.
